Imagine what’s possible when 100 Hopewell Valley families contribute $100 or more each toward educational excellence in HoVal schools. The Hopewell Valley Education Foundation (HVEF) is kicking off this year’s The Power of 100 campaign and we are looking for 100 plus generous individuals, families and local businesses to step forward and support this year’s campaign: Funding a district-wide technology pilot of new methods of teaching and learning which complement traditional techniques.
The HVEF is a nonprofit whose mission is to enhance the educational experience in Hopewell Valley schools through the identification and development of community partnerships and resources. For almost 20 years, the HVEF has been committed to gathering and distributing financial resources to ensure the success of our students. Funding from the Foundation and our partners makes a huge difference for the young people of Hopewell Valley, especially now in the wake of shrinking state allocations and rising costs. Recent programs such as YouthInk!, Author in Residence, and Project Lead the Way have been funded by the HVEF through the generosity of local businesses, corporations, and families like yours.
Our specific goal this year, developed in partnership with the district, is to have a classroom set of iPads at each of the six schools. iPads are quickly becoming a basic tool in education and HVEF wants to help place iPads in the hands of the students of Hopewell Valley. This will not only help prepare our students for the future, but also will help keep Hopewell Valley schools competitive with emerging trends in education and support strong property values in our community. What we could only imagine when we were children will soon be the reality in education.
Some possibilities — Imagine a first-grader reading a book written at just her reading level. Imagine a fourth-grader video chatting with his pen pal in Mexico — in Spanish. Imagine a seventh-grader touring Sydney, Australia, at the touch of a button. Imagine a dyslexic student using the latest sound-to-text app. Imagine a ninth-grader carrying all of her books without a backpack. Imagine one of our seniors applying to colleges with a digital portfolio. Imagine our faculty trained in the most effective classroom techniques for using the latest technologies.
To date, we have raised over $6,500 toward The Power of 100, including gifts and pledges from all 17 members of the HVEF board. We hope that you, our fellow Valley residents, will consider becoming part of The Power of 100 by making a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more.
