Janet Marsh Hunt is unassuming, gentle, kind, generous and sweet — a discerning and ardent supporter of the arts in the Delaware Valley for decades: member and past president of the Phillips Mill Community Association; chairwoman of the arts section and member of the governing board of the Hunterdon County Cultural and Heritage Commission; member of the Hunterdon Museum of Art and Artsbridge; director and owner of the Coryell Gallery for 31 years.
She has given so many of the finest area painters and sculptors a locus, a home, a center of warmth and community through her many special openings and her annual juried Lambertville Historical Society Show.
The evolution of her gallery is remarkable and unique: She has embraced an ever-broadening gamut of approaches to making art — from total abstraction to representational form. She deserves the highest accolades for her integrity and consistent dedication to quality, and for the love she has bestowed on the artists she represents.
For so many of us, it would be a burden of intractable sadness if she is destined to lose the Coryell Gallery. Janet Hunt is our doyenne of the arts.
