Jesse Savadge, 59, of Lawrence Road, faces multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to burn down a neighboring house on Lawrence Road on Feb. 15.
Mr. Savadge was charged with aggravated arson, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest after he shoved a police officer who was attempting to interview him, , according to police Lt. Charles B. Edgar.
The residents were at home and heard a “popping” sound outside their home around 6:30 p.m., Lt. Edgar said. When they went outside to investigate, they discovered the fire on the outside of the house. It had been set on the side closest to Mr. Savadge’s house.
The residents attempted to put out the fire themselves, while waiting for firefighters to arrive. The fire was extinguished within a few minutes, before it could spread inside the house.
Police do not know why the fire was set.
Mr. Savadge is being held in the Mercer County Corrections Center on $90,000 bail.
