Fri., Feb. 24
   Lenten soup sale: Holy Ghost Church preparing meat-free soups on Fridays through April 6 for the benefit of the church. Soups, halushki and frozen pirohi will be available a the church at Roosevelt and 6th Avenue. Pickup is from 4- 6 p.m. Soup is $8 per quart, halushki is $6 per quart, frozen pirohi are $6 per dozen.    Charity basketball: A mixed coed team of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Alexander Batchko Intermediate School will take on the faculty of ABIS and Roosevelt schools in a game at Manville High School. 7 p.m. $3 in advance from school offices or $5 at the door. The game raises money for the Carol Caliguari fund, which gives scholarship to high school seniors who intend to pursue a career in education.
   Sat., Feb. 25
   Rabies clinic: The clinic, originally scheduled for Jan. 21 and cancelled due to snow, has been rescheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. at Firehouse No. 3, North 8th Avenue. Dogs and cats can receive a three-year vaccine shot. Sponsored by the Somerset County Department of Health.
   Spring sports signups: Borough department will take registrations from 9 a.m.-noon at Weston School for kindergarten soccer, traveling soccer, traveling softball, and instructional baseball and softball. Evening registration will also be held Thursday, March 1, from 6-8 p.m. in the municipal building courtroom. 908-725-9478, ext. 121.

   Senior class trip meeting: Parents and students intending to go to Williamsburg, Va., from June 6-10 must attend meeting at 7 p.m. in Manville High School Library.
Sat., March 10
   Filet mignon dinner: The squad auxiliary hosts the “all you can eat” benefit for the Manville First Aid and Rescue Squad at 6 p.m. at VFW hall, 600 Washington Ave. $35. 908-725-3694 or 908-722-3865.

   Blood pressure checks: Second Thursday of the month, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., VFW.
   Entertainment books: Books filled with coupons for local shopping, meals, travel to be used throughout 2012 are on sale for $30 at the senior center, 20 So. 3rd Ave.. 908-526-0175.
   Public library book sale: Buy donated and surplus books to support the library. Non-sale hardcover books are 50 cents; soft-cover 25 cents each or by the bag for $2.
