The North End Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 of Manville will hold its 18th annual fisherman’s flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the VFW at 600 Washington Ave.
The flea market features rod, reel and tackle merchandise from vendors for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Admission is $3 (children under 12 free) with fun for the whole family, including door prizes, 50/50 raffle, refreshments, demonstrations and unique merchandise at unbeatable deals.
Vendors wishing to rent tables are asked to call Rob Clougher at 908-526-0403.
The market was created and organized by members of the fire company in order to support the daily operations of the company. The company has monthly bills, unfunded by the borough, that need to be paid.
Fundraisers pay for these items (e.g., uniforms, utilities, insurance, emergency supplies and building upgrades). Recently the company has made improvements to the building’s exterior and future upgrades are necessary.
The all-volunteer Fire Company No. 3 has been protecting residents and businesses of Manville for more than 80 years. The borough fire department responds to about 200 emergencies each year. In 2011, the number jumped to more than 400 emergencies, of which about 160 were directly related to Hurricane Irene flooding.
Fire Company No. 3 hosts other fundraisers, including its flower sales at Easter and Mother’s Day, and a Fall Basket Bingo. In addition, the company’s banquet hall is available for rent. It has a full kitchen, bar area, dance floor and ice machine.
