Senior citizens were treated to a special President’s Day lunch on Monday, compliments of the Manville PBA.
The annual luncheon for the seniors was held at the North End Firehouse on North Eighth Avenue. Seniors signed up through the Manville Recreation department.
A larger-than-normal crowd of 93 senior citizens attended the lunch that began at noon. Officer Nickolas Franzoso, the president of PBA Local 236, said, “This is a big crowd — more that we’ve had in years past. Everybody is getting a little restless and hungry and many were here at 11:30 ready to go.
”This is just something that the PBA we like to do for you guys to show our appreciation for the seniors of our town,” he said. “It is just a small token of our appreciation for everything.”
PBA members who attended to show their support were Sgt. Bill Yankowski, Sgt. Jim Paterno and officers Bill Sampson, Dave Sheffrin, Todd Widitz and John Granahan.
The seniors dined on Italian food from Frank’s Pizza including chicken francese, chicken and eggplant parmigiana, baked ziti, sausage and peppers and salad.
Natalie Walkoviak, the president of the Manville Senior Citizens, spoke briefly after dinner saying “We, the senior citizens, would like to thank the Manville PBA for doing this for us every year. I would also like to thank them for their protection because I know when you call them, they are available. Thank you so much.”
