The Manville Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue. The club is comprised of people who are residents of Manville, age 60 or older, and 55 if disabled.
Canned goods or non-perishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting, as well as soup labels. Remember to bring one item per member to help stock the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members.
The next meeting will be on March 8.
Marie Pappas, our new corresponding secretary, will be installed at the March 8 meeting, along with the officers who were unavailable for the January installation.
Ed Komoroski, representing the Manville Youth Alliance, said the group is working on dates for the senior prom and the tech course.
The club celebrated Valentine’s Day with a picnic luncheon catered by the VFW. A nice treat !
Lynn Whitenight, recreation fitness instructor, gave a presentation on the exercise classes. The programs are walk-chair, light weights and walking. Exercise classes are held four morning a week at Fire House No. 1 and the walking program is held at Manville High School two nights a week. She encouraged us to get up and move.
Ann Foeri again asked that if you have not received the robo phone calls prior to the monthly meeting please let her know so she can update her phone records.
The books for the property tax freeze have been sent out by the state (blue book 2011 Form PTR-1 or 2). You have until June 1, 2012 to file. If you have any questions you can contact Lisa Geickont at the tax office.
Recreation Events
Atlantic City The club is running a $2 bus trip to Bally’s Casino on Saturday, Feb. 25. Contact Bill Evans or Theresa Evans at 908-625-5013. The bus leaves from the VFW parking lot.
Atlantic City The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot on the third Wednesday of each month for Showboat Casino and the cost is $30, which will be returned. This trip is open to the public by reservation only. Make your reservation with Josephine Pschar at the meeting or call her at 908-722-0156.
