ACME: Meet the talent behind Oscar winners

An evening on “The Art of Filmmaking” with Ted Tally, Oscar award-winning screenwriter, and Larry McConkey, award-winning cinematographer on the 2012 Oscar-nominated film, “Hugo,” will be held at ACME Screening Room on Sunday (Feb. 26).
There also will be a reception at Caffe Galleria, Lambertville House. The events begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.
Mr. Tally won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay for “Silence of the Lambs” and wrote “The Red Dragon,” and “All the Pretty Horses,” as well as serving as creative consultant on “Shrek 2,” “Shrek the Third,” and “Madagascar. “
Mr. McConkey is a steadycam operator and cinematographer. His credits include “Hugo,” “Silence of the Lambs,” “Goodfellas,” “Kill Bill,” “The Sopranos” and more. He won the highest award for his field — a “Lifetime Achievement Award for Mobile Camera Platform Operator” (a generic term for Steadicam which is trademarked by the original inventor) and a “Lifetime Achievement Award for an Outstanding Historical Shot” for the shot in “GoodFellas” going into the Copacabana. Both awards were from the Society of Camera Operators.
Both Mr. Tally and Mr. McConkey are donating their participation in the event in order to raise funds for the emerging cinema space, ACME Screening Room.
”It is a great honor that both Ted Tally and Larry McConkey, filmmakers of such incredible talent, in high demand, would donate their time to raise funds for our independent cinema program,” said Sara Scully, program producer.
Mr. Tally and Mr. McConkey will show select scenes from the award-winning films they have worked on and discuss the “creative approaches that made these films so unforgettable,” said a spokesman.
Time will be reserved for audience questions.
The event will be followed by a reception at Caffe Galleria at The Lambertville House, Bridge and Union streets, Lambertville, with complimentary appetizers and cash bar.
Oscars will be shown in the bar after the event’s reception.
Dinner reservations will be taken and dinners sold separately by Caffe Galleria. Patrons can contact Caffe Galleria directly for dinner reservations.
