HOLICONG, PA: The Silverman Gallery is pleased to present “Alluvial Days III”, a new collection of paintings by Joseph Barrett, one of Bucks County’s most revered impressionists. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, March 3rd, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 4th, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and runs through April 7th.
Alluvial . . . rich, loose, fertile soil, shaped and reshaped by movement of water. “The accumulation of time, days compressed into memory. Images of vanishing Bucks County farms, villages and a slower way. These elements are part of the structure of my paintings n filtered through the images of past Impressionistic painters.” Joseph Barrett.
Born in Midland, North Carolina, Barrett was raised on Bentiver, his maternal grandmother’s plantation in Profitt, VA. He earned his BFA in painting at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and completed his MFA at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He has received multiple awards for his work and was honored along with, fellow artist, Christopher Willett at a joint exhibition of their paintings in the Pennsylvania State Capital Building in Harrisburg in 2010 where they were presented with a proclamation by the House of Representative and honored at a reception hosted by the governor.
Barrett’s work, though influenced by earlier American Impressionists, is uniquely his own. He paints the hills, rivers, and towns of the area in glorious lavenders, pinks, blues and greens. His night scenes are truly spectacular with inky dark skies, and softly lit houses in icy snow. He maintains the traditions of the original New Hope painters by creating his own frames, carved and gilded in metal leaf. These frames pay homage to well known Pennsylvania frame makers, Ben Badura and Frederick Harer.
The gallery, founded by Herman Silverman, founder and chairman emeritus of The Michener Museum, also represents the Impressionist art of Myles Cavanaugh, Alan Fetterman and Jennifer Hansen Rolli. The Silverman Gallery is located in Buckingham Green Shopping Center, 4920 York Road (Route 202) between Doylestown and New Hope. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with other hours by appointment. Please call 215.794.4300 for more information. Visit our website at www.silvermangallery.com.
