HIGHTSTOWN — An artistic crew, composed of four East Windsor natives, is ready to capture local members of the community during the shooting of the group’s original sketch comedy, “The World’s Greatest Ginger: A Documentary.”
The filming of the show’s second episode will begin at 9 p.m. at the Tavern on the Lake, 101 N. Main St. The public is invited to attend the event and there is no entry fee.
"It feels good to get the support of a town that we’ve all lived in for the vast majority of our lives,” said East Windsor native Scott Glazer, 23.
Mr. Glazer is one of the writers behind “The World’s Greatest Ginger.” He graduated from Montclair State University in 2010 with a degree in broadcasting.
A sketch comedy, “The World’s Greatest Ginger,” is a collaborative work created by Mr. Glazer, Brian Gruber, Steve Sachs and Alex Stone. All men are 23, East Windsor residents, and 2006 alumni of Hightstown High School.
They wrote “The World’s Greatest Ginger” second episode together.
Mr. Glazer described the quartet as being “1988 boys.”
All four individuals will star in the show’s second episode.
Mr. Gruber, who co-wrote the first episode along with Mr. Glazer, plays the lead role of Ginger.
"Everybody is writing and acting,” Mr. Glazer said. “The way the show works, the cameraman also has a bit of personality.”
Sunday’s filming will take place at the upstairs level of the Tavern on the Lake. Concurrently, a screening of “The World’s Great Ginger” pilot will air — which is all part of the group’s comedic plan.
The second episode’s plot has the “The World’s Greatest Ginger” characters bear witness to a screening of the show’s first episode before a Tavern on the Lake crowd.
"Everybody will probably be an extra in the second episode,” Mr. Glazer predicted of the anticipated crowd. The upstairs level of the Tavern on the Lake has a capacity of 210 people.
"The sky’s the limit,” he said.
Mr. Glazer described the sketch comedy as “a collaborative effort” and “an ongoing project.”
The first episode of “The World’s Greatest Ginger” is featured on YouTube.
He said, “Since we have the Internet, we are free to do as we please.”
When asked what sparked the project to begin last spring, Mr. Glazer replied, “Why not? We had all these silly ideas and we wanted to find ways to express them. That’s how we ended up doing it.”
"We started ‘The World’s Greatest Ginger’ as a movie idea, but we decided episodic relationships between characters are big nowadays and we realized we could capitalize on the market with this idea,” Mr. Glazer said.
He promised “plenty of laughs” and “creative twists” within the second episode.
It is being produced by Act Natural Productions, based in Asbury Park, of which Mr. Glazer is a founding member. He began the production company last summer along with shore natives Keri Costa, of Neptune, and Anthony Ventola, of Sea Bright.
Andrew Froening, 24, East Windsor, a 2005 graduate of HHS, was the cinematographer for the first episode. It was shot at Brewster’s Pub, in East Windsor, last June. Mr. Froening has a separate production company, Firmkick.
Ricky Lorenzo, 23, of New York City, a 2006 alumnus of HHS, will film the second episode. Mr. Glazer is pleased that the filming of the second episode will attract customers to the Tavern on the Lake. “They welcomed us with open arms,” he said. “It feels really great to work with a favorite establishment.”
A DJ will play music in between the filming of the “The World’s Greatest Ginger.”
"Come on by and have a fantastic time,” Mr. Glazer said.
