Mercer County Community College’s Center for Continuing Studies (CCS) is launching “Spring Action,” an initiative that expands spring noncredit courses offered to both adults and high school students. In addition to adding sections for its more popular courses, the Center is incorporating some new, later starting courses. Classes are held on Mercer’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road, and most are offered in the evenings and on weekends to provide flexibility.
Among the new courses is a wellness class, “Reiki Level I.” An ancient Japanese art, Reiki uses a technique commonly called “palm healing,” said to attune the energy flow within the body and allow for one’s natural healing process to occur. It is used to relieve stress, boost the immune system and promote inner peace. The course will be offered two separate weekends: April 14-15, and April 28-29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. An information session will be offered on Wednesday, March 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Conference Center at Mercer. Registration is $10, and those attending will receive a 10% off coupon for a Reiki course.
“Understanding the College Admissions Process” is a new course to help high school students in tenth and eleventh grades, as well as transfer students, learn about the college admissions process. While every college has its own requirements, the course helps students focus on how to create an appealing application. Topics will include: how to find the right college, how to fill out a college application, creating a resumé, writing an essay, and how to handle the interview process. Dates and times are Saturdays, March 24 and March 31, from 9 a.m. to noon.
A course on “Advanced Cascading Style Sheets” (CSS) is offered by popular demand as part of the Web Designer Certificate program. This hands-on course delves into advanced CSS techniques used to build web-standard site layouts without tables. The six-session course will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 3-19, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Please note: there will be no class on April, 5, it will instead be held on April 4.
A course for those looking to substitute teach, either in public or private schools in New Jersey, is entitled, “How to Become an Effective Substitute Teacher,” designed to provide the tools necessary to be a highly effective professional in the classroom. The first session is offered March 20, 22 and 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. A second session will be held Saturdays, April 28 and May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Additional sections of popular current courses include American Management Association business certification, computers, teaching, ServSafe and more.
“Spring Action” classes will start March 5, and registrants do not have to pay a $15 late fee, regardless of when they register. This offer applies to “Spring into Action” courses only, and not the regularly scheduled courses for spring semester.
