KINGWOOD — The Kingwood Township Education Foundation has announced the winners of its seventh annual Hall of Fame Awards, recognizing the contributions of individuals who have provided extraordinary service to the Kingwood Township school district and community.
The 2012 Hall of Fame Award recipients are Geoff Hewitt (Alumni Award), Linda Ormosi (Retired Educator Award) and Anthony De Sapio Jr. (Community Service Award).
Mr. Hewitt is principal of Lambertville Public School.
”I was surprised to have received the recognition, however, I was also honored,” he said. “The fact that I have devoted my career to working in the field of education; it has been great to be able to reflect on my own early education at KTS as a foundation for my career.”
The Hall of Fame Award winners will be honored at the annual spring gala and auction Saturday, March 24, at the Sergeantsville Fire Company ballroom, 761 Sergeantsville Road. Tickets cost $50 per person and include dinner, DJ and an open bar. They are available under the KTEF tab at www.kingwoodschool.org.
”The KTEF’s Hall of Fame Awards have become a recognized tradition in Kingwood and a wonderful way to honor the incredible people who make our community a better place to live,” said Pat Fiaschetti, president of KTEF. “This year we had a record number of nominations for the Hall of Fame Awards, all of whom were very deserving candidates. We are thrilled to honor Geoff, Linda and Anthony and thank them for their contributions to Kingwood.”
Mr. Hewitt, current principal and supervisor of curriculum at Lambertville Public School, grew up in Kingwood Township and graduated from Kingwood Township School in 1987 and Delaware Valley Regional High School in 1991.
He received a bachelor of science degree in biology and a Pennsylvania teaching certificate in the areas of general science and biology from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture.
After working in a laboratory for one year, followed by teaching in Pennsylvania, he received a New Jersey teaching certificate in the same areas.
He taught sixth-grade science for eight years at the Reading-Fleming Middle School in Raritan Township during which time he received an educational leadership master’s degree from Delaware Valley College.
Mr. Hewitt then accepted an administrative position at Barley Sheaf Elementary School in Raritan Township where he remained for four years, serving as vice principal for three years and acting principal for one year.
In July 2010, he became principal and supervisor of curriculum of Lambertville Public School.
”It is an unexpected honor to be recognized by the KTEF,” he said. “Having utilized my own education to devote my life to a career of educating students within our area has been a privilege. I greatly appreciate the work of foundations such as KTEF and have seen first-hand the benefits that they provide students. I strongly believe that working together as community members, school officials and parents, the children within each community thrive.”
