MANVILLE: Rabies clinic has record turnout

Pet owners lined up their cats and dogs Saturday for rabies shots sponsored by the Somerset County Department of Health.
The three-hour clinic was held at North End Firehouse on North 8th Avenue.
Susan Star, president of the Manville Board of Health, said the rabies clinic was successful, providing shots to 259 animals.
”Everything ran smooth, and there were no problems with the dogs,” she said.
This was the largest number of animals to come for the rabies shot that Manville has had, she estimated.
Christine Newman of the Arlington Veterinary provided her services for free.
”She did it gratis and was terrific,” Ms. Star said.
Ms. Star periodically handed out biscuits to the dogs waiting in line and said there were more cats than past years. Some waited in line for more than an hour while others kept checking back, hoping the line would shorten.
”We had a really good turnout, the weather held out, and everything was fine,” Ms. Star said.
