The artists at NineTomatoes in Titusville have been creating mandalas and designs for five years, reaching a world-wide audience with their prints and other products. The artwork is reproduced on canvas, paper, and fabric, and is used for meditation as well as home decor.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, reports mandala designer Dana, who says, "People who use our mandalas claim that they transform the energy in their space as well as their body – it is subtle, but powerful. They report noticing a shift in energy right away. My own feeling is that each design is an entity unto itself – it speaks to the subconscious, it heals, signals you to slow down, changes energy and perspective, it changes lives." Dana believes that the symmetry and balance of the design is key to magnifying the power of these mandalas.
The concentric mandala form has been used since ancient times in Buddhism, Hinduism and esoteric Christianity as an aid to focusing the attention during meditation, for creating a sacred ritual space, and for trance induction. The objective is to evoke a visceral effect as one sits before the symmetrical design of the mandala image, which saturates the viewer’s visual field, aiding the meditator’s ultimate goal of experiencing union and oneness with the cosmos.
