Cumberland County College (www.cccnj.edu) will present “Works in Dance III” on Saturday, March 3 at 8:00 p.m., featuring the highly acclaimed Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company (www.cddc.info) who will perform Cercle d’Amour, an ensemble work that illuminates various aspects of relationships including play, competition, and fantasy.
“Works in Dance III” is a collection of dance performances presented by unique and expressive professional New Jersey Choreographers who are the recipients of the 2011 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Choreographic Fellowship Awards. Other presenters that evening will include Nai-Ni Chen, Loretta Di Bianca Fois, and Susan Thomasson.
Cercle d’Amour explores the visual and movement metaphors evoked by a resonant and versatile prop — brilliant red hula-hoops. Featuring music by Andy Tierstein, this ensemble work was developed as a result of Ms. Dorfman’s closer examination of this seemingly frivolous item and the images it stirs: a circle that encompasses and embraces, the need to find balance, and humor.
Cercle is Ms. Dorfman’s choreographic response to what she was once told: “laughter, too, can change the world.”CDDC invites the audience to think, laugh, cry, and enjoy.
