JAMESBURG — Probationary officer Richard Bruno and Class II police Officer Anthony Mendoza were sworn in at the Jamesburg Council meeting Wednesday.
Officer Mendoza will be paid on a per diem basis at $13 per hour, and Officer Bruno will be paid a salary of $40,000, the starting rate for Jamesburg police officers.
Before joining Jamesburg police, Officer Bruno was a full-time police officer in Helmetta for three years, and Officer Mendoza was a part-time officer for three years with Seaside Park.
The Jamesburg Police Department now has 13 full-time officers and 16 total. Three of the 16 officers are sergeants. Full-time officers work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Also at the meeting, Chief Horvath expressed his interest in promoting Detective Kevin Wilson to sergeant. He explained to the council the importance of having detectives and said Mr. Wilson has done a good job being the department’s only one.
”It gives everybody in the department something to look forward to,” Chief Horvath said. “It’s very important to have someone doing full-time investigative work. There’s no way we can survive without a detective bureau. Most departments when they talk about a detective bureau they’re talking about four or five detectives. We have one detective, and he is inundated. Everybody here wears multiple hats. Everybody is busy.”
