MANVILLE: Senior center plans month of games, art, health tips

   The Manville Senior Center on South Third Avenue has scheduled its month of activities.
   The center offers food, fellowship and fun on most weekdays.
   The Manville Recreation Department leads lightweight exercise on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15–10:45 a.m., and “walk and chair” exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30–10:30 a.m. Exercise classes with Lynn at $10 each run from September to June.
   Bingo is played every Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. Birthdays are recognized on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
   The center’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Its phone is 908-526-0175.
   Meals need to be ordered a day in advance, before 10:30 a.m. The suggested donation is $1.50 for those 60 and older.
   Manville is one of seven centers operated by Somerset County; it is accessible to individuals with disabilities. The center offers educational, recreational and entertaining activities for active adults age 60 and older, including wellness programs and health screenings.

   March 27 – “Nutrition Jeopardy: Test Your Knowledge about Nutrition during National Nutrition Month” by Kate Domen, diet technician, Office on Aging & Disability Services.
   March 29 — Name that tune with Rich Saracino.
   March 30 — “Life & Work of Lorenzo Ghiberti.” This “Art of the Masters” program by Creative Notions starts at 10:30 a.m. Registration is required.
   Participants will learn about the life and works of Ghiberti (1378–1455), an Italian artist during the early Renaissance period. His advancements in the field of metalworking and relief techniques are among the finest examples of Italian Renaissance art. His artwork and craftsmanship inspired other great artists, including DaVinci and Michelangelo.
   After the presentation, 16 participants will have an opportunity to create their own gold or copper foil relief, using rubbing tools and plates. Foils will then be “aged” by adding or removing paint. All pieces will be framed with 8-by-10-inch mats.
