By Robert P. Baker
The Hillsborough Democratic Organization has announced plans for “Democrats 2012 Community Day.” The event will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM at the Hillsborough Point Clubhouse on Render Drive in Hillsborough, NJ. Free and open to the public, it will include door prizes.
“This event is for people who would like to learn more about the election process and how they can become involved as a volunteer as well as meet fellow Democrats from Hillsborough, the County and the State,” says Michael Goldberg, Chairman of the Hillsborough Democratic Organization. “It will offer them an opportunity to discover what they can do to make a difference in the areas that they believe are important, to find out more about the activities of Hillsborough Democrats, how to become a poll worker or District Committee person, and the accomplishments and leadership of the Democratic Party.”
Event Organizer Sonya Martin and her team have planned a full day of programming for this first-time Democratic event. Attendees can stop at the Help Desk to receive and complete voter registration and Vote by Mail applications, declare their party affiliation, sign up to be a campaign volunteer, visit the Democratic Store to purchase campaign memorabilia or participate in a poll on Hillsborough local issues.
State and local elected officials and Democratic candidates are expected to be on hand between 10:00AM & noon during the “Obama for President Caucus” and Meet & Greet Sessions.   Names of officials will be announced as their attendance is confirmed.
Those who have an interest in important issues can spend a couple of hours at one of the special panel discussions scheduled below:
            1:00PM           Women’s Health Issues
2:00PM           Public Education Issues & Legislative Updates
3:00PM           Voter Rights, Voter Suppression & Lawsuits
“The Democratic Party has more registered voters, 5574 as of last June, than the Republicans in Hillsborough,” stated Goldberg.  “The time has come for Democratic voices to be heard. Anyone who would like to be part of our success is invited to join us on April 14.”
