Punish troublemakers, not the entire class
Punish troublemakers; not entire class
To the editor:
Hello, I am a 10-year-old boy and I have a very important issue to talk about. I am writing this letter as part of a Boy Scout project about citizenship. We learned that it is important to get involved in the community and one way to do that is by writing a letter to the editor.
It concerns me that when teachers spot kids being bad they take away recess. This is a bad idea, because sometimes recess is the only time kids get to exercise all day! By the time kids get home from school and get all of their homework done, it is too cold and dark to play outside. As a punishment, I think teachers should give more work instead of taking away recess.
Also, punishment should target the individual kids who are being bad. We should not be told we have to “take one for the team” and have our recess taken away. As it is, our recess has been reduced to only 30 minutes a day.Teachers shouldn’t be so quick to take that precious half-hour of exercise time away!
Thank you.
