HILLSBOROUGH: Veteran Bennett receives service medal from state

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno presented medals to two Somerset County veterans in recognition of their individual service to America.
The medals were presented March 6 at a ceremony in Bridgewater as part of an ongoing effort by the N.J. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA) to honor veterans and their families.
The veterans receiving honors were John Bennett Jr. of Flagtown, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and Joseph Fishman of Somerset, an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Veterans from seven other counties also received awards at the ceremony.
”These individuals fought for the timeless American ideals of freedom, liberty and justice,” said Lt. Governor Guadagno. “They are the greatest of generations, and their heroism must never be forgotten.”
The medal recipients included veterans from military branches that served during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
DMAVA has many programs to protect and assist New Jersey’s veterans, including regional family assistance centers, veteran’s hotline and a statewide network of veterans’ service officers.
