MANVILLE: Police blotter, March 4-10

   A North 4th Avenue man came to headquarters at 1:22 p.m. March 5 to report someone had used his Social Security number to open an H&R Block tax claim.

   A South 20th Avenue man came to headquarters at 3:47 p.m. March 5 to report his vehicle had been keyed overnight, causing $500 damage.

* * *

   A caller at 8:06 p.m. March 5 reported a suspicious dark object in the rear of her residence on North 13th Avenue. Patrol found it was a blanket and advised throwing it in the garbage.

* * *

   A Central Avenue man reported at 10:52 p.m. March 5 his personal info was issued in Colorado to open a Nextel account to which $2,800 in equipment was charged. An investigation was begun.

   A North 7th Avenue woman called police at 6:40 p.m. March 6 to say she was experiencing chest pains after an assault incident with her next-door neighbor. Police advised her of her rights to sign complaints for simple assault and harassment.

   At 8:42 p.m. March 6 a North Main Street caller reported a punctured driver’s side tire, with an estimated repair cost of $35.

* * *

   A taxi minivan allegedly hit numerous fixed objects, a caller reported at 11:13 p.m. March 6. Patrols found the vehicle in the Reading Cinema parking lot. PSE&G responded to fix a broken street light. The minivan was towed.

   An overheating coffee pot set off a fire alarm at 10:19 a.m. March 7 on Washington Avenue. Patrols, fire and squad were dispatched.

* * *

   A woman in a black Chevy cavalier complained that a man in a red Ford F-150 at 9:13 p.m. March 7 that was following her around the Wal-Mart lot on North Main Street. Police found the man and told him to leave. She didn’t want to sign a complaint.

   A caller at 5 a.m. March 8 said there multiple flashlights in a residence across North 6th Avenue. Patrols found lights hanging from the outside of the house were swaying in the wind.

   At 8:47 a.m. March 8 a caller reported there was a squirrel with an arrow in it running around her neighborhood and she feels unsafe. The woman told police the squirrel shows up around 5 a.m. and she would like extra patrols in the area because she feared being shot with an arrow.

   Alexander Batchko Intermediate School Principal Michael Magliacano came to headquarters at 9:26 a.m. March 8 to sign a complaint against two women, one whose son had been absent from school 1½ days and late 39 times this year and another whose daughter had been absent 19 times and late twice.

   At 9:32 a.m. March 9 an Adesa Auto Auction employee reported the company had recovered a vehicle stolen from Suffolk County, New York. Police confirmed and sent out teletypes.

* * *

   Graffiti was found at Papawick Park at 1:23 p.m. March 9.

* * *

   A Hillsborough man entered headquarters at 4:43 p.m. March 9 to report that an open gate to a Dumpster in the parking lot of Quick Chek hit his vehicle. Police confirmed there was damage to the front bumper.

* * *

   A Pope Street caller said March 9 that they had received a call from the 702 area code claiming they had won a sweepstakes and to send money through Western Union. Police responded and found the number disconnected. They advised the caller not to send money.

* * *

   A caller reported a noise complaint of hearing whistling in the Kennedy Boulevard area at 20 minutes past midnight March 10. Patrols found all was quiet. Police responded to a second complaint of hearing whistling at 4:38 a.m. and again found all was quiet.

* * *

   Margaret Mikita of Kosciusko Street reported at 4:50 p.m. March 10 that someone had entered her home and removed several pieces of jewelry of unknown value between Feb. 12 and March 10, when her home was empty due to flooding. Sgt. Jeffery Petrone was to investigate.

* * *

   Wal-Mart employees called police at 8:08 p.m. March 10 to say a customer had a concealed firearm on his waist. Police responded and found a retired off-duty Manville police officer, who said he showed his credentials to management but they still called police.

* * *

   A Lincoln Avenue woman reported at 3:39 p.m. March 11 that someone hit her vehicle overnight. Police logged a hit-and-run.

* * *

   Police responded to the Chester House just before midnight March 11 on a report of two unwanted patrons. Police arrested Slawomir Oleradzi, 21, of Manville for disorderly conduct and later released him. Marek Mendocha, 23, of Manville was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting police. The rescue squad was called to treat his bleeding face, and Mr. Mendocha was taken to Somerset Medical Center. The judge set bail at $7,500.
