All South Brunswick High School students were eligible to sign up to compete in the six various competitions during the evening.
Students are separated into two teams depending on last name. Students with the last names beginning with A-L are on the Black team, and students with last names beginning with M-Z are on the Gold team.
Students that participate, volunteer during the event, or attend are eligible to receive National Honors Society in-school community service hours and must bring their student I.D.’s to the event.
The first event is the tire pull where two students of the same gender will both run to the center of the gym and grab hold of the center of the tire attempting to pull their opponent across the designated line.
Following the tire pull will be musical chairs. Musical chairs is a coed event where participants will walk or dance around a circle of chairs while music plays. When a participant fails to sit in a chair before the music stops they will be out for the remainder of the game and a chair will be removed from the circle.
Ultimate Frisbee will also be played. This is also a coed competition and will also be timed and refereed by a faculty member.
Both boys and girls will play the obstacle course relay. All participants will have to navigate their way through the faculty derived course.
Tug-O-War will also be an event. There will be separate male and female teams. The team that pulls the center ribbon on the rope over the designated line.
The final event played will be dodge ball. Both boy and girl participants eliminate the other players on the opposing team through hitting them with the foam ball. The team with the final player standing wins.
Student Council advisor Lauren Morris said that although Black and Gold Night is a SBHS event, all South Brunswick community members are welcome to attend.
