Mayhem on the Mountain

The East Amwell Historic Preservation Committee
will present a talk entitled “Mayhem on the Mountain – The Sourlands during the
Lindbergh Kidnapping" on Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m. Township historian James Davidson will discuss his
has original research on what effect the kidnapping had on the people and places
on the mountain and in the surrounding areas, especially Hopewell that had over 900
reporters camped there within two days. He will focus on the period from when Charles
A. Lindbergh, Jr. was kidnapped until his body was found 4 miles way 72 days later.
Local people who reported seeing strangers in the area, whose descriptions ended being
key in the trial and execution of Bruno Hauptmann will be discussed. Mr. Davidson
is currently working on a book to be published later this year by Arcadia Press which
will be a pictorial history of the Lindbergh Kidnapping and Trial. The powerpoint
presentation will be at the East Amwell Municipal Building on Rt. 202, and Wertsville
Rd, Ringoes and is free to the public.
