Aisha Jackson, a senior at Hillsborough High School, has been honored with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.
The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of time, was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. She represented Hillsborough High School.
Aisha volunteers regularly at a local nursing home during the school year and summers, where she organizes and leads social activities for the seniors.
In addition, Aisha travels to upstate New York to work on building projects for families in need. Aisha said in her application, “As I grew closer to the residents, I managed to overcome my fear… more people need to step outside their comfort zones and try new volunteering activities.”
Karen Bingert, principal of Hillsborough High School, said Aisha is an outstanding student and an award-winning member of the school’s nationally competitive girls track team.
