About 300 Hillsborough Girl Scouts celebrated the 100-year anniversary of Girl Scouts on a crisp March 10.
Girls from K-6, Daisies, Brownies and Juniors gathered at Camp Dewitt for a fun-filled day of activities run by Cadettes and Seniors.
After opening ceremonies, girls moved to stations to make traditional yarn dolls, learn knots and lanyard, decorate their own sit-upon buckets, see girls in a historical fashion show, play games and gather around an outside fire.
Roasting s’mores and singing songs was the highlight of the day. For service, each of the girls brought a non-perishable food item to donate to a local family and the Hillsborough Food Bank. More than 300 items were collected.
Corporate sponsorship helped pull off the event, said organizeers. They gave thanks to ShopRite in Hillsborough, Flemington and Branchburg; Walmart in Manville and Flemington, Costco in Bridgewater, Window Accents in Hillsborough, Staples in Hillsborough, Build-a-Bear Corporate, Lowe’s in Hillsborough, and Papa John’s Pizza in Hillsborough. The largest donations came from Home Depots in Flemington, South Plainfield, Bound Brook, Bridgewater and Princeton.
