HILLSBOROUGH: News from the Senior Corner for week of March 22

CHAPTER A
   Chapter A meets the first Thursday of the month in the municipal complex. We are open to new members.
   Doors open at 11:30 a.m., alIowing you time to review the trips we offer. The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. Coffee and doughnuts are served at meeting’s end.

   Upcoming schedule:
   Thursday, April 5 — Our regular meeting will include our health fair for all seniors of Hillsborough, from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be many professionals there you can consult with, so bring any questions about medications or other health matters. Have your blood pressure taken, or consult about diet, if diabetic, etc.
   Thursday, April 12 —Songs of John Denver at the Pines in Allentown, Pa. Cost is $84. Depart from Pathmark lot at 10:30 a.m. This is a new destination for us. The show is called “Almost Heaven.”
   Thursday, April 19 — Appreciation lunch in the municipal building. Cost is $12, which is refunded when you attend the luncheon.
   After a plentiful lunch, we’ll play bingo for cash prizes. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Bingo starts at 1 p.m.
   Monday, May 14 — “A Bench in the Sun” at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse. Cost is $56. We depart from Kohl’s lot at 10:15 a.m.
   June 23 -July 1 — Trip to Branson, Missouri. Payments may be made in four parts. Double occupancy is $750 per person, with $990 for a single. Payments have begun. First payment was $249 for a single, and $189 for a double. Lou Possemoto, an experienced trip leader, is in charge of this trip.
   We usually go to Atlantic City on the first Monday of the month. This is open to everyone; no need to be a member to enjoy the ride on a large, comfortable bus with restroom facilities. We depart at 9 a.m. from Kohl’s lot for a direct ride. Call Jo at 908-359-6418.
   Here are the ongoing activities taking place in our Senior Room:
   Monday: The knitting group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Need help with a project? This is the place to find it.
   Tuesday: Bridge, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We also have the regular card players from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
   Wednesday: Canasta from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Also, mah jongg from noon to 4 p.m.

CHAPTER B
   Chapter B members meet on the second Thursday of the month in the Municipal Building’s all-purpose room, unless otherwise specified.
   Doors open to members at 11:30 a.m. and our meeting officially starts at 12:30 p.m. This gives everyone time to check our trip and event tables and purchase tickets. Coffee and doughnuts are served after our formal portion of the meeting.
   Also scheduled for this month is bingo on Thursday, March 22. If you do not have a ticket for this popular event, ’call Irene Williams at 359-0972. Cost of bingo tickets are $3 and this includes hot dogs, snacks, drinks, etc.
   Our “Breakfast with Seniors” will be held on Wednesday, March 28, at the Emeritus Assisted Living Facility, at Auten and Amwell roads. Cost is $5 and tickets are limited. Tickets have to be purchased in advance; none will be sold at door.
   If you plan to attend, please remember to bring your Easter bonnet for our parade and sing-a-long. The residents do enjoy this portion of the program.
   Our spring luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, April 12. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and, after a few brief announcements at noon, we will begin our lunch.
   The committee has been working to make this a festive event. Cost of the ticket is $20 and you will receive a refund of $15 upon attendance. March will be your last opportunity to obtain a ticket. No tickets will be sold at the door.
   Trip News
   We have more than 40 members and guests who will be going to Savannah on April 15 and returning on the 21st. For those who have signed up, we will be having a meeting to get acquainted, pick up baggage tags and get any last-minute instruction needed on Monday, March 26, at 10 a.m. Bagels and coffee will be served.
   Tickets will again be sold in April for a cruise on the Spirit of NY on Thursday, May 17. This includes a two-hour narration, entertainment and a buffet lunch. The bus will be leaving from the Municipal Building and you will be taken to Chelsea Pier in New York.
   Following our cruise and lunch, you will be dropped off at the World Trade Center and take a brief walk to visit the 9-11 memorials. This will be about a 10-minute walk — buses cannot go into the memorial area. Cost is $100.

Hillsborough Senior Center
   The center at 339 South Branch Road is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Its phone is 908-369-8700.
   Transportation is available for those who do not drive. Call 908-231-7115.
   Blood pressure screenings are the third Tuesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. Caram (an East Indian game, similar to billiards) and other games are played every Thursday.
   Cards are played daily. You can flex, stretch and tone with Rose on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
