A gallery intended to serve as a rotating exhibit showcasing works of art by kindergarten through 12th grade students was opened March 14 near the Board of Education offices in the municipal building.
Each piece was submitted for inclusion in the gallery by the student’s art teacher. The works will be showcased in the Board of Education office, foyer, conference room and hallway.
People could also hear musical excerpts of student band, choral and orchestra concerts for private listening under the sound dome in the Board of Education foyer.
Docent tours of the gallery were led by teams of kindergarten through eighth graders, high school advanced art students and Art Honor Society members. Live gallery music was presented by selected K-12 instrumental and choral students in the conference room and multipurpose room.
Along with art, music and culinary displays and demonstrations, the Family and Consumer Sciences Department held an optional buffet dinner in the multipurpose room. The dinner was prepared, hosted and served by high school advanced foods students under the direction of department teachers and chefs from Sodexo Food Services.
Exhibiting and performing artists, advanced food students and the staff of the Arts Department were recognized in an awards ceremony after the meal.
More than 100 frames for the gallery were purchased in part by a curriculum innovation grant from the Hillsborough Education Foundation. Sodexo Food Service employees also supplied their time and talents to work with Advanced Foods students in the creation of the gallery dinner.
”We have so many talented students in our district, it is our hope that the Superintendent’s Gallery will expose their hard work to a broader community audience,” said Dr. Jorden Schiff, Superintendent of Schools. “We congratulate all students included in this year’s gallery on a job well done.”
