The Manville Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue. The club is comprised of people who are residents of Manville, age 60 or older, and age 55, if disabled.
The meeting for April 12 will start at noon. Note the change of time for this meeting only.
Canned goods or non-perishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting, as well as soup labels. Remember to bring one item per member to help stock the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members.
The books for the property tax freeze have been sent out by the state (blue book 2011 Form PTR-1 or 2). You have until June 1 to file. If you have any questions, contact Lisa Geickont at the tax office.
A guest speaker is being planned for the April 12 meeting to discuss the new federal health care plan and how it will affect seniors. This is an important issue and much information will be discussed. Please be prompt.
Recreation Events
• April 29-May 3 — Trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto includes tour of Niagara, Maid of the Mist boat ride: visits to Welland Canal, the beautiful floral clock and Niagara Falls view. Included is an all-day tour of Toronto, featuring Casa Loma. There will be a tour guide for the entire trip. A valid passport is required. Contact Donna Pierrot at 908-722-0325. This trip is open to the public. There are still a few openings.
• Atlantic City — The club is running a $2 bus trip to a casino on Sunday, March 25. Contact Bill Evans or Theresa Evans at 908-625-5013. The bus leaves from the VFW parking lot.
• Atlantic City — The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot on the third Wednesday of each month for Showboat Casino and the cost is $30, which will be returned. This trip is open to the public by reservation only. Make your reservation with Josephine Pschar at the meeting or call her at 908-722-0156.
