Solebury United Methodist Church is bringing the well-known musical, “Godspell,” to the New Hope/Solebury area through a new outreach program.
”We realize that we do ministry in context,” John Cordes, pastor of Solebury United Methodist Church, said.
”For us, the context of our church is a community that is steeped in the arts. Realizing that musical, visual, literary and theater arts have for centuries enhanced people’s experience of Scripture, and their dialog with God, it is our vision to support the arts, as they are expressed in our area
”Part of our ministry within the arts will be a Broadway Theater Series and we think ‘Godspell’ is the perfect fit to launch such a series. It presents the Gospel of Matthew in a way that is entertaining, contemporary and consistent with Christian teaching. Incorporating musical styles of pop, folk rock and gospel it includes the well-known songs ‘Day By Day’ and ‘Light of the World.’ And, it’s family friendly,” Pastor Cordes added.
”Godspell,” by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak, will run for five performances — March 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m.; April 1 at 2 p.m.; and April 5 and 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Cast members are all well-known local actors and the director is New Hope’s own Ralph Miller. The church is located at 2536 Aquetong Road, New Hope.
Limited seating will be available. To make reservations or for more information, contact the church at 215-862-2657 or visit: www.soleburyumc.org. A free-will offering will be taken.
The Solebury United Methodist Church “has a long heritage of Christian witness and community service extending back nearly 200 years in the New Hope/Solebury area,” a spokesman said.
