STOCKTON — The expenditure of up to $175,000 for emergency sewer repairs was authorized March 12 when a bond ordinance was adopted by Stockton Borough Council.
Borough Clerk Michele Hovan said the measure was adopted in response to the need to fix a leak — due to a pipe collapse — in the borough’s sewage pumping station.
Ms. Hovan said council also discussed the idea of restoring a long out-of-use parking lot in Stockton Park.
”The council is focused on the need for parking in town,” Ms. Hovan said.
She noted that increased commercial activity downtown has led to more demand for parking.
Borough Engineer Dennis O’Neal will do a preliminary investigation of the possibility of restoring the lot, which could hold about 40 cars.
If council decides to move ahead with the idea, a formal plan including lighting, signs and access to the parking lot would be developed.
Ms. Hovan added that council members already are looking into improvements to other sections of the park.
ALSO at the March 12 meeting, Ms. Hovan said, council voted to approve a contract for the reconstruction of the full length of Old Prallsville Road.
Under the contract, up to $140,000 can be paid to the Bridgewater-based firm of Pave-Rite Inc.
A grant from the state Department of Transportation will cover the cost of the job, which is expected to be started in about a month.
Council also OK’d an upcoming raffle by Courthouse Quilters.
