CALLING ALL MERCER COUNTY STUDENTS GRADES 6-8 – NEW SCIENCE FAIR FOR ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
By Robin Rapport
There is a new Science Fair this year that is specifically for students in grades 6 through 8.
The Mercer County Science Fair at HSA, is seeking students to exhibit their projects in a live event on April 28, 2012 at the Health Science Academy, located at the Assunpink Campus of the Mercer County VoTech school across from Mercer Community College on Old Trenton Rd in Hamilton.
An award ceremony will be held the following week on May 1, 2012 at the Kelsey Theatre on the campus of Mercer County College.
The Fair is open to all students who reside or go to school in Mercer County.
Students qualify regardless if their school is public or private or if they are home schooled.
Participants have the choice to create a new exhibit or repurpose an exhibit they’ve already entered in their school or other science fair.
The Fair is the brainchild of Mercer County resident Jackie Rapport, a 10th grade student at the Health Science Academy, who conceived the idea while planning her Girl Scout Gold Project.
Says Jackie, “Girl Scout Gold projects are supposed to benefit the community.
I decided to make mine complementary to President Obama’s message to emphasize math and science in our schools.
This project let’s me share my love for science with the next group of students who will go to high school in the next 3 years.”
