Monmounth County Teen Awarded Hero to Animals

Animal Welfare Federation of NJ
The Animal Welfare Federation of New Jersey’s (AWFNJ) JUNIOR HERO TO ANIMALS AWARD was presented to 15 yr old Robbie Murphy, a volunteer with the Monmouth County SPCA in Eatontown, NJ.  The Junior Hero Award is presented to a humane-minded student in recognition of the recipient’s initiative in undertaking actions and efforts which contribute significantly to the welfare of animals in New Jersey on a local, regional or state level.  The award was presented during the AWFNJ Annual Conference March 10-11, 2012 at Rutgers University Busch Campus Student Center.
According to Lisa Mulhearn, Director of Development, “Robby Murphy is a true inspiration at an age when most teens are worried about their friends, the latest tech gear and the status of their social life he was motivated to help the homeless animals.  He not only started the Race for the Animals he has actively succeeded at having the number of runners and canine participants grow every year making his event a huge win with a donation of $7,000 after last year’s race. The Monmouth County SPCA is extremely proud and honored to say that Robby Murphy chose to support the homeless in their care and it was a pleasure to nominate him for the AWFNJ Junior Hero Award and even more exciting to see him accept it at this year’s conference.”
