Hightstown
Between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Stockton Street, an unknown subject or subjects removed three packages from the victim’s porch, police said, on March 15. The packages were valued at $180 worth of merchandise that had been delivered. On March 16 at 8:21 p.m. on Maple Avenue, a report of a stolen bicycle was taken. The victim reported that an unknown subject or subjects had taken a bicycle valued at $200; the bicycle was last observed within the garage of the address, police said. The bicycle was described as a Schwinn Mirada girl’s mountain bicycle that was neon yellow and green in color. At 3:54 p.m. March 17 on North Main Street, officers arrested Avelino Banos, 20, of North Main Street, and charged him with contempt of court. Officers were investigating a suspicious man, police said, and upon identifying and performing a credential check on Mr. Banos learned that he had an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued by Vineland City Municipal Court in the amount of $501. Mr. Banos was later released from custody upon posting bail.
On Franklin Street, officers arrested Daniel Ayad, 22, Clarksburg, and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, careless driving, and speeding near midnight March 17. Officers observed Mr. Ayad traveling at a high rate of speed, recording a speed of 42 mph in a 25 mph speed zone, police said. Upon stopping Mr. Ayad the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and had the subject perform field sobriety tests. Police said he failed the tests, was taken into custody and submitted breath samples that resulted in a reading of .08 percent BAC. Mr. Ayad was released to a relative and with pending court action.
Officers arrested Meghan Schenkenberger, 24, of Jackson, and charged her with possession of hypodermic needles and speeding 11:10 p.m. March 19 on Mercer Street. Police said, while on patrol officers observed the subject traveling at a high rate of speed and recorded a speed of 37 mph in a 25 mph speed zone. Upon stopping the subject the officers observed signs of narcotic use and a canine search and a consent search revealed the recovery of nineteen syringes and an empty packet of suspected heroin. Ms. Schenkenberger was taken into custody and was later released on a summons complaint with pending court action.
On March 20 at 11:59 p.m. on Broad Street, officers arrested Lauren Smoot, 21, of Westampton. Police said Ms. Smoot was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, operating a motor vehicle without a required interlock device, driving while suspended, driving while suspended from a prior driving while intoxicated conviction, unlicensed driving, reckless driving, and speeding. Ms. Smoot was stopped after being observed traveling 48 mph in a 25 mph speed zone, police stated. While stopped, the officers observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage and learned through a credential check that the driver had a suspended driver’s license from a prior driving while intoxicated conviction. Ms. Smoot was given field sobriety tests, which she failed and was taken into custody, police said. Ms. Smoot submitted breath samples that resulted in a reading of 0.09 percent BAC. Ms. Smoot was released to a friend with pending court action.
East Windsor
Lloyd Oxford, 67, of Monroe, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, on Route 130 just before midnight March 17, police said. An officer observed a black Hyundai traveling on Route 130 in excess of the posted speed limit, according to the police, and also noticed that it was being operated erratically. The vehicle was stopped on Route 130 near Route 133. Police stated that the officer detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage and conducted a field sobriety test. The driver, Mr. Oxford, was arrested for DWI and later released pending court action. He was also charged with speeding, failure to maintain lane, careless driving and reckless driving.
Jasmeet Banipal, 32, of Allison Road, was charged with shoplifting from Target at 3:14 p.m. March 21, police said. Officers responded to Target for a report of a shoplifter in custody, police said, and store personnel reported that Ms. Banipal had been observed placing items worth a total of $47.07 in her bag. According to police, she then attempted to leave the store without paying. She was arrested and later released pending court action.
Near 2p.m. March 23, officers responded to Walmart for a report by store personnel of a shoplifting in progress. When officers arrived, store personnel identified the suspect, listed by police as Nicole Schifano, 24, of Hamilton, and advised that she had been observed placing several DVDs and Blue Ray discs into her backpack. According to police, she then attempted to leave the store. Police said while Ms. Schifano was arrested, the officer found two hypodermic syringes in her backpack along with 25 discs worth $574. She was thus also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Ms. Schifano was arrested and released pending court action.
Emiliano Tyulayan, 50, Klee Court, was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Route 130 just after 1 a.m. March 24. He was also charged with failure to maintain lane. Police said an officer observed a grey Honda traveling south on Route 130 approaching Route 571. The vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner and the officer stopped it, according to the police report. The driver’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, police said, while describing Mr. Tyulayan at the scene, Further, police stated that the officer detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Mr. Tyulayan was given field sobriety tests and arrested for DWI. He was later released pending court action.
Police said criminal mischief occurred between 9 p.m. March 23 and noon March 24 after a complainant reported that his vehicle, had been parked on his Beechcroft Drive driveway, of his residence, when someone smashed the rear window. Police said damage was estimated at $300.
A complainant reported that the front window of her residence had been smashed on Evanston Drive approximately 5 a.m. March 25, police said. Damage was estimated at $250 and police said the incident is under investigation.
Thomas Huston, 23, of Beechcroft Drive, was arrested for obstructing justice, hindering apprehension and failure to wear seatbelt on Route 33 just after 7 p.m. March 26, police said. An officer stopped a black Honda on Route 33 West because the passenger was observed not wearing a seatbelt, police said. The passenger provided false personal information to the officer,, according to police, and investigation revealed his true identity and he was arrested for obstructing justice. He was later released pending court action.
