To the editor:
We are running for the Board of Education and would like to encourage all Hillsborough residents to vote for us and for the proposed school budget on Tuesday, April 17.
We applaud the current school board for bringing the voters a responsible budget with an appropriate balance between tax relief and support for the priority areas of staffing and reduction of class sizes, technology, capital improvements and curricula revision. Please join us in voting yes and putting this budget into action.
With regard to our candidacies, we recognize that many of you know us through our involvement with various in-town activities. We want to take this opportunity to share with you our priorities should we be elected to represent you.
Our first priority will be to continually improve the quality of education that our children receive while getting the most for our education dollars.
Part of this priority is the need to emphasize recruitment and retention of the best teachers, as well as choosing the best curriculum to prepare our children for the next steps in their lives. We also feel strongly that we need to get the most for our education dollars and that we can provide a balance of quality education and fiscal responsibility.
Another priority area is communication. Simply put, school board officials cannot do their job of representing the voters of the township if they do not know the views of the public. As such, we would like to establish strong communication channels between the school board and public.
Lastly, we feel that extra-curricular activities play a large role in the education of our children and want to ensure broad opportunities are available for all students.
We are very interested in the education of our children and understand the future success of our children is dependent on an excellent education. As board members, we will do our best to ensure that investments are made in the areas that will benefit all of our children while balancing budgetary concerns with long-term needs of the district.
