Kean University’s Dance Ensemble (www.keanstage.com), the student-based dance company that showcases innovative, captivating and theatrically and high-spirited works will present “Spring Works 2012,” April 13 and 14, showcasing the work of faculty, alumni, students and guest choreographers. The work of Carolyn Dorfman, founder and artistic director of the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, (www.cddc.info) will be featured.
Under the direction of Luis Martinez, dance professor for the department of physical therapy, performances feature new and repertory works that encompass a broad range of genres which include contemporary, modern, and jazz, classical, urban and ethnic dance forms.
Dorfman company member, Mica Bernas, worked with students teaching them a technique classes and an adaption of the company’s 2010 work, “Cercle D’Amour,” set to music by Andy Teirstein. The work is centered around brilliant red hula hoops that carve and shape the space and the dancers’ bodies and will be performed during “Spring Works 2012.”
“The dancers worked hard to master the elements of my technique and vision and the embraced the challenge,” comments Carolyn Dorfman. “Mastering the hooping techniques and integrating them into contemporary dance was a major accomplishment and the students grew in their capacity to dance fully through the space, both individually and collectively.”
