National Cancer Survivors Day walk June 3

EATONTOWN — The Cancer Support Community is inviting the public to take part in celebrating cancer survivors everywhere on National Cancer Survivors Day, June 3.

“You will find our celebration event filled with joy, camaraderie, hope, compassion, and love as we honor cancer survivors for their strength and courage,” said Ilene Winters, founder and executive director, in a press release. “We will also recognize the many family members, friends and health care providers who are affected by cancer.”

The celebration will be held in the form of a wellness walk at Thompson Park in Middletown, with 1- and 3-mile options available. Those who don’t wish to walk can still be part of the celebration, and help cheer on the walkers. The celebration is for cancer survivors and for anyone that supports or has supported a survivor.

Honorary Chair Michele McBride, morning host of WBJB 90.5 The Night, will kick off the walk at 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, rain or shine, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Participants will enjoy refreshments, entertainment, T-shirts, awards and a post-walk celebration. Participants may walk alone, join a team or form a team. Registration is required. See www.cscjerseyshore.org for details. Awards will be given for largest team, highest fundraising team, highest fundraiser and bestdressed team.

The mission of the Cancer Support Community is to help people affected by cancer to enhance their health and well-being through participation in programs of emotional support, education and hope. The walk goal is to have at least 500 walkers that raise a minimum of $25,000 for the first annual walk. All proceeds will benefit the Cancer Support Community – The Diney Goldsmith Center serving Monmouth and Ocean counties. For more information, call the Cancer Support Community at 732-578-9200.
