Board Members of the Army Spc. Benjamin G. Moore – Hope Hose-Humane Co. No. 1
To the editor:
Please allow us to take a moment of your time to introduce ourselves. The Army Spc. Benjamin G. Moore – Hope Hose-Humane Co. No. 1 Memorial Trust Fund began as an idea not long after January 12, 2011.
On that date, Benjamin Moore, 23, an Army Specialist, was killed in the line of duty, with two of his brothers in arms, by an improvised explosive device. Their truck was hit by an IED while clearing roadways for our troops in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. The explosion killed three members of our United States Army, including Benjamin Moore. We are all thankful that two other people inside the vehicle survived the attack, although, both have since suffered from post traumatic stress disorder to this day.
Benjamin was a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician with Hope Hose Humane Co. No. 1 from the age of 16. The attacks on our country on 9/11 inspired this then, 13 year old to do something for his country, to serve. And serve he did, belonging to multiple fire and ambulance companies until joining the Army in 2009.
What Ben inspired in others, we will keep alive, continue to serve and help others who decide to give of themselves. The Trust Fund mission is to continually raise funds into the future, which will allow awards to be given to individuals in three categories of service.
Awards are given to students from Ben’s alma mater, Bordentown Regional High School, who has interest in any of the following fields: fire fighting, Emergency Medical Technician services, police work or military aspirations.
Awards are also given to individuals who have completed Firefighter 1 and an EMT class and are considered to be the “most improved” to be graduating from class.
The final awards are given to two members of Hope Hose-Humane Co. No. 1 who have volunteered the most duty crews in a year’s time frame. As with all awards, we are trying to give back to individuals, who like Ben, step up and get involved for the good of their community.
We are asking for your help and support of our efforts. We also want you to know that we understand how difficult our times are today for businesses in our communities.
We accept monetary donations to the trust fund. We also accept gift certificates and products from your business to use as door prizes to help us raise funds and give your business exposure. Any support you may give is greatly appreciated. We thank you in advance for your consideration, your help and support of our efforts.
