Union, N.J. – The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company (www.cddc.info), was honored by both the corporate community and supporters of the arts at their recent annual performance and gala benefit held at the SOPAC (South Orange Performing Arts Center), South Orange, New Jersey.
The company returned to SOPAC to kick off its 4th captivating season with an evening event that featured company premieres by artistic director Carolyn Dorfman and guest choreographer Doug Elkins.
In addition, two New Jerseyans were honored for their support of CDDC and for their accomplishments — Leah Kronthal, (of Short Hills) CDDC board and fundraiser committee member and Randy James, (of Highland Park) Artistic Director of Danceworks, Associate Professor of Dance at Rutgers and is former president of DanceNJ.
Ms. Kronthal and her husband, Jeff, Co-Managing Partner of KLS Diversified Asset Management, L.P., are major philanthropists of programs supporting women, children and the arts. Professor James is an untiring advocate of dance, dubbed the “patron saint of dancers,” earlier this year by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, is ranked among the top 10 Jersey artists making a difference in their craft by The Star-Ledger’s Inside Jersey magazine
The event raised over $100,000 from both individual donors and corporate funders to include: The Center for Ambulatory Surgery, Mountainside; Summit Physical Therapy, Union; Ambulatory Anesthesia Care, Mountainside; Drucker, Math & Whitman, PC, North Brunswick; and Neiman Marcus, Short Hills. Chairing the fundraising committee for the gala was Gail Schob of Short Hills.
Funds raised from the event will help to support the 2012 touring schedule, development of new work, and most importantly — the arts education programming held in numerous cities, school districts and New Jersey counties, including Union, Middlesex, Bergen, Cumberland, and Essex.
