Open to high school juniors who apply during sophomore year, scholars see every show for free and take workshops and master classes with professional artists. The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County is offering a free program to support caregivers 7:30-9 p.m. May 3 at the Eatontown Library, 33 Broad St., Eatontown. “Finding Success Over Caregiver Stress” will be presented by Dale L. Get a jump-start on summer gardening at Brookdale’s annual Greenhouse Plant Sale on May 1-4 at the Lincroft campus. Hours of the sale are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 9:30 a.m.-noon Friday. Each winter, students, their learning assistants and faculty start growing a selection of flowers, vines, herbs, houseplants and vegetables — including heirloom tomatoes. Dan Lieb, founding member of the N.J. Historical Divers Association, will be at the Atlantic Highlands Library, 100 First Ave., at 7 p.m. May 15, describing how two very old matching locomotives were discovered off Long Branch, and what research has revealed about these relics. Lieb, an underwater artist and illustrator, has participated in dozens of archeological investigations on wreck sites in and out of the state of New Jersey, and was featured on an episode of the History Channel’s “Deep Sea Detectives.” The program is free to the public. Monmouth University’s third annual Global Understanding 5K held on the campus on April 6 raised $1,500 to benefit pediatric brain tumor research through the Kortney Rose Foundation (KRF).
With close to 100 participants, it was the largest turnout for this event to date. David Wong was the first man to finish in 19:07, and Monmouth University student Jenna Intersimone was the first female to finish, with a time of 21:25.
The 5K event caps off the Global Understanding Convention, a week of events that brings light to global events.
