Auto racing season opens April 28

Months of work at Wall Stadium Speedway inWall Township have been completed and hours of fine tuning in area race car shops are nearing an end, all in preparation for the first event of the 2012 Saturday night professional stock car racing season on the evening ofApril 28.

Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock, Legend Cars and Factory Stock racers will all be on the Wall Stadium Speedway card with grandstand seating opening at 3 p.m. and the first race set to take the green flag at 5:00 p.m. sharp.

Defending Modified champion Anthony Sesely of Matawan is at the top of his game as he readies to attempt to claim a second crown. Sesely will have plenty of competition in his quest for opening night glory and a second straight crown as Chas Okerson of Freehold, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Freehold’s Steven Reed and Howell’s Ken Woolley Jr. are just a few of the area’s standout Modified drivers who are expected to go for the win and the season-long driving title.

The Sportsman division is also earning a lot of interest for the new season with car counts expected to rise. While 2011 champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck will lead the field in search of another crown, standouts Eric Mauriello of Howell, Brick Township’s Shawna Ingraham and Robert Sutphin, Charlie Kremer III of Toms River, Kevin Davison of Howell and Andrew Krause of Holmdel will be among those offering plenty of competition.

On April 28 the competitor pit area open at 11 a.m., with a paid testing session for competitors then running from noon to 3 p.m. The regular afternoon practice session will begin at 3 p.m. and run until 4 p.m., while spectator seating will open for the first time this season at 3 p.m.

The “On Track Party” will set up after practice and run from 4-5 p.m. Racing action on the one-third mile paved oval will begin at 5 p.m. with qualifying events, to be followed by feature race action for all five divisions.
