Earth Day celebration planned in New Bruns.

The New Brunswick Interfaith Coexistence Project will present a celebration of Earth Day from noon to 4 p.m. April 29 at the Second Reformed Church, 100 College Ave., New Brunswick. This event will take place rain or shine. Sponsors for the event are the Rutgers Federal Credit Union and New Brunswick Tomorrow.

The theme for the day will be “Creation, Animals and Noah’s Ark,” designed to raise awareness about the plight of stray animals, the overcrowding of animal shelters, and the need to control the animal population with neutering and disease prevention.

The event will begin with a free barbecue lunch at noon, including kosher and vegetarian options. There will be a short interfaith service at 1:30 p.m., beginning with a performance by the Rainbow Children’s Choir, directed by Ben Berman.

From 1 to 4 p.m. there will be demonstrations by the following groups: Sayreville Pet Adoption, Happy Paws, Sammy’s Hope, Farr Veterinary Clinic, New Brunswick Animal Control and the New Brunswick K-9 unit.

Rabies shots will be available for cats and dogs for $5.

The New Brunswick Interfaith Coexistence Project is a consortium of clergy and other religious leaders representing the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith communities in the New Brunswick area. They collaborate on a number of activities during the year, such as an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, that bring together all faith communities in common worship and goals.

This event is free and open to the public. Participants are asked to bring donations of paper goods and beverages. For further information, contact the Rev. Douglas Shepler at Second Reformed Church, 732-439-3668, or srcnb_ [email protected].
