MANVILLE: Senior Corner column, week of May 3

   The Manville Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue. The club is comprised of people who are residents of Manville, age 60 or older, and age 55, if disabled.
   Canned goods or non-perishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting, as well as soup labels. Remember to bring one item per member to help stock the Food Bank.
   Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members.
   Annmarie O’Neill from Senior Seminar Services gave a presentation on the proposed changes to the new Medicare/health care program at the March meeting. She talked about how we would be affected and how seniors’ health care plans would change. She discussed the importance of having a will, power of attorney for financial and health decisions, federal HIPPA document and an advance medical directive.
   The annual picnic will be at Falcons Camp on Thursday, June 28, from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets at $5 for members and $10 for guests will be on sale at the May 10 and June 14 meetings.
   The Christmas party will be Sunday, Dec. 9, at the VFW with tickets $10 for members and $20 guests. Mark your calendars for these events.
   Recreation Events
   • Atlantic City — The club is running a $2 bus trip on Sunday, June 24, to Showboat Casino. Contact Bill Evans or Theresa Evans at 908-625-5013. The bus leaves from the VFW parking lot.
   • Atlantic City — The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot on the third Wednesday of each month for Showboat Casino. The cost is $30, which will be returned. This trip is open to the public by reservation only. Make your reservation with Josephine Pschar at the meeting or call her at 908-722-0156.
