ALLENTOWN: Jonas competes in Rifle and Air Rifle Junior Olympics

Danny Jonas, a Junior at Allentown High School, just competed in the Rifle and Air Rifle Junior Olympics held at the U.S. Olympic training center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The five-day event included two days of precision Air Rifle and three days of Smallbore (.22) Rifle. Jonas won the New Jersey State Qualifier earlier this year to become one of only 101 competitors for the Air rifle and one of only 61 smallbore shooters. The Air Rifle event is held Standing, and the Rifle is 3 position, Prone, Standing and Kneeling.
The rifle and Air Rifle Junior Olympics is run by USA Shooting, the governing body for the US shooting Olympic team. The Junior Olympics are for competitors 20 and under and must either win their State qualifying tournament or an “at large” bid. Danny was joined by two other New Jersey shooters, Joe Todaro and Alex Rivera, both of whom shoot for West Point Military Academy.
Jonas finished 52/100 in the Air Rifle competition and 38/61 in the rifle event. This was his first visit to the Junior Olympics and, at the age of 17, should have several other opportunities to return in future years.
Jonas is a member of Citizens Rifle and Revolver Club in West Windsor and shoots for their Junior team.
