By Jen Samuel, Managing Editor
BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — The end of April brought with it the opening of the eighth Bottom Dollar Food store in New Jersey.
"On average each store has approximately 30 to 35 associates,” said Bottom Dollar Food Spokeswoman Tenisha Waldo, who works in Corporate Communications at Delhaize America, on Tuesday. Delhaize America owns Bottom Dollar Food as well as Food Lion and Sweetbay Supermarket. “We are always looking for talented people who are fun, energetic and have a passion for helping customers as well as fellow associates.”
The Bottom Dollar grocery, located at the corner of Route 130 and Farnsworth Avenue, held its grand opening on April 20 in Bordentown Township April 20.
State Assemblyman Troy Singleton of the 7th district was among the New Jersey dignities in attendance.
"Bottom Dollar is a good start,” Assemblyman Singleton told the Register-News on Monday in reference to economic development in the area.
Bottom Dollar Food also donated $500 to Clara Barton Elementary School, MacFarland Intermediate School, Bordentown Regional Middle School and Bordentown Regional High School as part of its grand opening.
Bottom Dollar Food is based in Salisbury, North Carolina.
"We’re excited to have recently opened the new store,” Bottom Dollar Food Spokeswoman Waldo said. “We are pleased with local reaction from customers.
She noted that Bottom Dollar Food is dedicated to bring low prices for its customers.
"Our company is dedicated to offering customers unbelievable prices. By managing expenses, improving efficiencies and utilizing synergies within Delhaize America, Bottom Dollar Food passes on savings to its customers in the form of unbelievably low prices,” Ms. Waldo said. “Bottom Dollar Food keeps prices rock-bottom by offering the most popular national brands, as well as by leveraging various in-store features that enable the banner to have a more efficient and cost-effective operation. In addition, we leverage a supply chain throughout the East Coast, from Maine to Florida.”
Ms. Waldo said that the Bordentown Township Bottom Dollar is the third of eight stores planned for New Jersey in 2012 and 2013.
"We invite the local community to come experience our unbelievable prices on fresh produce, quality meats, and mix of private brand and national brand items,” said Bottom Dollar Food President Meg Ham.
The grocery store is located near Bordentown City and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
In January, Bottom Dollar Food announced that it was opening of the Bordentown Township store.
Family-owned Nellis Corporation, of Rockville, Maryland owns the shopping center which houses the Bottom Dollar.
"It’s really great to see it open,” said Project Manager Pete Federowicz of Nellis Corporation on May 1. “I think the people in the community really like it.”
Nellis purchased the shopping center in 2008 after it had become a vacant building. It was formerly home to Acme.
Mr. Federowicz said Nellis had been working to bring Bottom Dollar Food to the community for some time.
"When we brought the property we considered the property to be gateway,” he explained, in reference to the location of the site on “a key corner of the market” in Bordentown Township in walking distance from Bordentown City.
Mr. Federowicz said his company reached an agreement via a letter of intent for a free standing building to house a Dunkin’ Donuts at the shopping center.
"We’ll be working getting approval for in the coming months with the Planning Board and the Township Committee,” Mr. Federowicz said. “We think the people in the township will be able to enjoy it. We hope to work through the process and get that approved.”
