Monks to build
sand mandala
Nine Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery will be building a Sacred Sand Mandala at the Princeton Center for Yoga & Health at the Orchard Hill Center, 88 Orchard Road, Skillman.
   There will be an evening of prayers and chanting Friday, May 11, 7:30- 9 p.m. The four-day construction of the Mandala is taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and ending on Saturday, May 12, 1-2 p.m. in the Princeton Yoga Amethyst Room. There will be a closing ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2-3 p.m.
   The center will be offering additional special events and outdoor classes (weather permitting) during the week creating time for reflection and celebration of community at its new home.
   All are welcome to observe and interact with the monks. Donations to support the monastery and works of the monks are welcome. The monks will also offer for sale their sacred art, crafts and jewelry during their visit to Princeton Yoga.

D&R Greenway Land Trust invites the public to its Upstairs / Downstairs Earth Ball on Friday Evening, May 18, from 6:30-11 p.m. This fourth annual country-themed fundraiser will be hosted by Emily and Johan Firmenich at their home, Eastbrook Farm. This year’s unique venue provides for “upstairs” views from the pool house deck overlooking preserved landscape; and “downstairs” fun with cocktails and dancing under the stars. 2012’s Earth Ball cocktail will be “TGISpring.”
   Denim is in order for this country chic event. Guests will dance to Bill Flemer’s “Riverside Bluegrass Band.”

   This annual fund-raising event supports the important work of D&R Greenway to preserve and care for lands here in our community. The ever-expanding attendee population is increasingly connected to the land, not only at the Upstairs / Downstairs Earth Ball, but also through trail walks, art exhibitions and linked scientific and environmental programs at the land trust’s Johnson Education Center off Rosedale Road in Princeton.

Plant and Herb Sale
The West Windsor Arts Council will host a Mother’s Day Plant & Herb Sale at West Windsor Community Park/ Water Works, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Herbs, hanging baskets and flowering bushes will be on sale, in time for Mother’s Day. Proceeds will be used for landscaping at the West Windsor Arts Center.
   The WW-P Middle School PTSAs will be available to collect gently used sporting equipment that will be donated to local groups that provide athletic opportunities to underprivileged children.

Princeton Singers
Mother’s Day Concert
Just in time for Mother’s Day, The Princeton Singers will perform a concert titled “Songs My Mother Taught Me” at 8 p.m. at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer St. in Princeton.
   The Princeton Girlchoir will be the special guest for the concert, which will feature operative and solo literature by Elgar, DuParc, Strauss and Offenbach with choral works ranging from “For the Mothers of Brazil” to “Blues in the Night.” Princeton Girlchoir will perform “A Cossack Lullaby,” “Queen Jane,” and “Music in My Mother’s House.”
