An Adesa Auto Auction employee came to headquarters at 9:40 a.m. April 30 to put on the record that he had received a harassing text message on April 27 from a former temporary employee.
A South 14th Avenue man reported at 10:12 a.m. April 30 that a white male had entered his residence and left in a white Corolla. Patrols and detectives responded to investigate.
A Kissimmee, Florida, man came to headquarters at 10:16 a.m. to report he had lost his brown leather wallet either at a South 16th Avenue address or in Newark. In it were a bank credit card, medical cards, Florida driver’s license and $26 in cash.
A pine tree caught on fire in the rear of a blue house at Huff Avenue and South Park. Patrols and fire responded at 11:38 a.m. April 30.
An officer was asked to go to Weston School at 2 p.m. April 30 to talk to a 7-year-old who said he was being abused by his mother’s boyfriend. Police talked to Principal Donald Frank and the boy.
At 2:39 p.m. April 30 a Washington Avenue woman reported finding a bright yellow men’s medium Dri-Fit Nike shirt with $35 price tag and security tag still on it.
A Garry Street woman called at 7:35 p.m. April 30 to report a dead groundhog in the backyard of her residence. DPW was to be contacted.
Patrolman William Sampson told a 58-year old Washington Avenue man to return a Wal-Mart shopping cart and not to take it to Quick Chek at 8:30 a.m. May 1.
A 77-year-old woman was found deceased at a South 6th Avenue home shortly after 1 p.m. May 1. The body was released to the funeral home.
At 7:35 a.m. May 2 a South Main Street caller said his 1993 silver Toyota Camry, valued at $6,000, was taken since 4:15 p.m. the previous day. The report was entered in national crime registry.
Sgt. Paul Meixner assisted CSX police at 12:14 p.m. May 2 with processing Mark Zagaja, 19, of East Camplain Road for tampering with railroad property.
The theft of 20 airbags, valued at $22, 028.41, was reported by Adesa Auto Auction at 3:13 p.m. May 2. The theft occurred between Feb. 12 and April 25.
Walgreen security reported a burglar alarm from rear entrance door at 12:50 a.m. May 3. Patrols found a broken rear door window and forced entry. Sgt. Ronald Gazaway reported theft of four oxycodone bottles with a total value of $50.
At 1:25 p.m. May 3 Detective Craig Jeremiah reported a burglary and theft on April 30 between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Missing was jewelry and currency with an unknown value. The investigation is to continue.
County communications reported an oven fire on North Arlington Street at 5:37 p.m. May 3. Patrols said the fire was put out before they got there. The scene was turned over the fire department.
Police oversaw a dispute between a group that allegedly refused to pay its taxi cab fee outside of Delilah’s at about 1 a.m. May 4. The cab driver and patrons came to an agreement, police said.
DPW Director Phil Petrone said at 8:32 a.m. May 4 there was criminal mischief in the form of graffiti on the north side of a bathroom in Duke’s Park. Estimated damage was $50.
A security officer at Wal-Mart called about a suspected shoplifter in the store on North Main Street. A Manville man who was suspected had left the store with a $49.88 bed comforter by the time officers arrived. The investigation is to continue.
A school crossing guard reported a group of juveniles skateboarding in the middle of Brooks Boulevard by North 2nd Avenue at 2:49 p.m. May 4. Patrols responded and spoke to about 20 juveniles.
Andy Palodam reported an unwanted female guest at the business on Washington Avenue at 11:05 p.m. May 4. Vanessa Jaramillo, 32, of Kew Gardens, New York, was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $2,500. She was taken to Somerset County Jail.
A North Weiss Street woman called at 1:27 a.m. May 5 to report she has wax buildup in her ear. Patrol responded and advised.
Police responded to a Bleecher Street address where there was an argument between a father and a 16-year-old son over the teen’s taking a shower at 1:35 a.m. May 5.
Police said four lawn statues had been moved, but not damaged, after checking a call from a Dailey Place woman at 7:42 a.m. May 5.
A Gress Street woman reported at 10 a.m. May 5 that the windows on her 2005 Dodge van had been damaged. Police confirmed front and back windows were damaged and there were many dents to the passenger side. Total damage was estimated at $2,000.
The driver’s side of a 2009 black VW Jetta on Richard Avenue was keyed overnight, police said at 10:30 a.m. May 5. Estimated damage was $300.
A man called at 10:58 a.m. May 5 to say a cat was bleeding in the alleyway next to a South Main Street address. Police found the cat deceased, bagged it and disposed of it.
A car drove through some bushes and into a house, owned by John Ferder, at North 13th Avenue and Brooks Boulevard at 1:15 p.m. May 5. Police, fire and rescue squad responded and the driver, Robert Harrison, 80, of Manville was taken to Somerset Medical Center.
Responding to a call at about 11 p.m. May 5, police found that juveniles were throwing rocks at a vehicle in the parking lot of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church on Brooks Boulevard. The Watchung man hosting a party at the church was advised of the complaint.
A South 7th Avenue resident called at 1:27 p.m. May 6 to say his vehicle had been struck while parked on the street. The auto belonged to a South 21st Avenue woman. Police recorded a hit-and-run.
A Franklin Park man came to headquarters at 1:38 p.m. May 6 to say he had found a brown leather wallet with a Costa Rica resident ID and $15 in cash. Police logged a property report.
A South 10th Avenue resident came to headquarters at 1:45 p.m. May 6 to say she had found a box in her home that Holland Township police were looking for on Dec. 21 while executing a search warrant. Patrolman Nickolas Fransozo called Holland Township police, who said they would pick up items on Monday,
A Hillsborough man came to headquarters at 6:26 p.m. May 6 to say a large snapping turtle was in the middle of Van Veghten Bridge trying to cross the road. Police found the turtle was out of the road and back to the river.
Wal-Mart reported a shoplifter and police arrested Caroline Acosta, 21, of South Main Street, Manville, at 9:30 p.m. May 6 for shoplifting and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Bail was set at $1,500. She was found to having pending warrants, totaling more than $1,100, from Middlesex and Watchung. She was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
