PRINCETON: House of Cupcakes back in Food Network competition

By Victoria Hurley-Schubert, Staff Writer
Even though cupcakes are small treats, they are a big deal to local “Cupcake Wars” champions Ron and Ruth Bzdewka from Princeton’s House of Cupcakes.
The Somerset couple whose shop is located on Witherspoon Street, are defending their title on a new Food Network show called “Cupcake Champions” premiering Sunday, May 13, at 8 p.m.
”Cupcake Champions” is a five-episode series that brings back 16 “Cupcake Wars” winners to compete for a $50,000 prize. The first four episodes will each have four bakeries competing, those episode winners will then compete in the fifth episode for the prize.
The Bzdewkas did not immediately return calls for comment.
The Bzdewkas first competed in February 2011 in a challenge to create cupcakes with a Cirque du Soleil theme.
This time, they will be baking cupcakes to go with the theme of the smash Broadway musical “SPIDERMAN Turn Off the Dark.”
In the series premiere, bakers use their Spidey senses to channel the famous superhero and be the star attraction at a VIP party for the Broadway show.
The Bzdewka’s episode was filmed about three months ago in Los Angeles.
