HILLSBOROUGH: Library adjusts summer hours

Here’s a list of activities, programs coming up

   Due to the Hillsborough Township Memorial Day Parade, the library will open at noon on Saturday, May 26, and close at 5 p.m. The library will be closed on Memorial Day on Monday, May 28.
   The last day for the Homework Help Center will be Thursday, May 24. It will resume in the fall. The center for grades 5-8 is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4-6 p.m.; Tuesday from 4-6 and 6:30-8:30 p.m.
   The Hillsborough library is closed on Sundays until September.
   • To mark National Physical Fitness Month, on Monday, May 21, at 7 p.m. instructor Mary Glynn introduces kickboxing with its high-energy, high-impact blend of kicks and punches set to upbeat music.
   Wear comfortable clothing and bring water.
   Upcoming programs intended for adults. Registration is required:
   • Monday Morning Moms (for parents/caregivers and children up to 36 months; there will be toys for the children to play with.) — On May 21 at 10 a.m. hear about library events planned for the summer and what other activities you can get involved in within your community.
   • Computer programs — Part two of two classes will be held Wednesday, May 23. Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 will be at 2 p.m. Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007 will be at 3:30 p.m.
   An introduction to the business networking site LinkedIn will be held Thursday, May 31, at 7 p.m. Attendees are requested to sign-up for a free LinkedIn account at www.LinkedIn.com prior to coming to the class.
   Registration is required for classes. The library has a limited number of laptops for patrons to use during the class, so register early if you need to use one. Patrons may also bring their own laptops, or just watch the presentation.
   • Book donations — The Friends of the Hillsborough Library will accept donations on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the back parking lot near the book drop. Books must be in good condition and in a box no larger than 18-by-24-by-12 inches. Books loose or in bags will not be accepted.
   • Container gardening — Learn how to start and maintain a container garden from Suzanne Bergeron, a certified nursery landscape professional with 10 years of experience in the field. Saturday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m.
   • Afternoon movies — “The Vow,” a PG-rated romantic drama starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, will be shown on Tuesday, May 22, at 1:30 p.m. “The Iron Lady,” Meryl Streep’s Oscar-winning portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, will be shown Thursday, May 24, at 1:30 p.m.
   • College information — Stop by the table in the foyer of the library’s hallway to meet and receive information from a Raritan Valley Community College representative. Wednesday, May 23, from 5-7 p.m.
   Here are programs for youngsters. Registration is required.
   Summer volunteer sign-up has begun. Teens entering grades 8-12 in the fall and who are looking for a way to earn community service hours can pick up an application to volunteer at the library this summer.
  Indoor Field Day — During National Health and Fitness Month, test your skills and fitness with some fun games. Thursday, May 17, at 10 a.m. for ages 4-6 and at 4 p.m. for grades K-4.
   • Story and craft: (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story about bunny ears and create a craft to take home. Friday, May 18, at 10 or 11 a.m. and Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m.
   • Stories for 4’s, 5’s & 6’s — Help your preschool or kindergarten child enjoy stories together and build language skills. No registration required. On Monday, May 21, at 1 p.m. the topic is the ocean.
   • Toddler Time (ages 2-3) — Introduce the pleasure of books to your child. Stories on music will be read on Tuesday, May 22, at 10 a.m.
   • Rhyme Time (ages newborn to 2) — Twenty minutes of nursery rhyme fun on Tuesday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m.
   • Anime Club (grades 8-12) — Hang out with your friends as we watch anime, discuss the latest manga and more! Thursday, May 24, at 5 p.m.
   • Singing Babies (newborn to 24 months) — Ann Wild will help start your little one on the road to a lifetime love of music-making. Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m.
