FLORENCE: Roebling Museum marks Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th

FLORENCE — The Roebling Museum will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge on May 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Often called the most beautiful suspension bridge in the world, the museum will highlight the Roebling Company’s contribution to this structure by opening a new exhibit, “Spinning Gold: The Roebling Company and the Golden Gate Bridge.” The exhibit runs through Dec. 31.
Opening remarks at 11 a.m. Saturday will be made by invited guests and dignitaries before the exhibit opens to the public. Roebling descendants from all over the East Coast and beyond are expected to attend.
A Golden Gate Bridge birthday cake and wire rope and Golden Gate-themed crafts for young people will be on the lawn of the 7-acre museum grounds. The museum also will show a period film in the Roma Bank Media Room of the museum produced by the Roebling Company, showing rare archival footage of the construction of the bridge.
The museum was awarded a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities to help fund the new exhibit on the Golden Gate Bridge with never-before-seen photographs from the Roebling archives of the bridge under construction.
The exhibit opens to correspond with national celebrations spearheaded by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The Roebling Museum is an East Coast partner in the country-wide celebrations.
The museum is at 100 Second Ave. in Roebling. Parking is available at the back of the museum off Hornberger Avenue. Visitors may take the Light Rail; the museum is a short walk from the Roebling stop.
