Jackie Reed, Patti DeSantis, Bordentown City
We would like to thank everyone for making this year’s Iris Growers’ Competition such a success.
Although we had a very early spring, and many irises had come and gone, we still had some amazing entrants.
The winners of this year’s competition are:
Franklin Carr Hybrid category First place, Judy Berkeyheiser, of Bordentown; second and third place, Michael Bunnick, of Roebling.
Named irises: First and second place, Mr. Bunnick; and third place, S. McCoy, of Westmont.
UFOs (Unidenified flowering objects) First place, Joseph DeLengyel, of Monroe Township; second place, Bill and Martha Griner, of Chesterfield; and third place, Beth Neylan, of Roebling.
Arrangements First place, Corey Roder, of Bordentown; second place, S. McCoy; and third place, Joe Havens, of Levittown, Pennsylvania.
A special thank you to Ellen Kosar and Diane Martin, who so lovingly tended the Franklin Carr Memorial Garden in Flynn Park all year long; to Marge and Tony LaPointe for their wonderful support the past 16 years; and the City of Bordentown for installing the new Victorian fountain, which was purchased largely by donations from Franklin Carr admirers and the City of Bordentown; and the Downtown Bordentown Association for its sponsorship of the Iris Fest.
To the person(s) who removed (stole) so many of the plants in the garden this past winter, which were purchased by donations from the community given in memory of Franklin Carr, shame on you.
There are so many kind and generous people in our community, but, apparently, there is at least one who has no conscience!
